First 'Star Trek: Discovery' Clips Released

The countdown to the debut of Star Trek: Discovery is on, and the series' star has unveiled the first clips from the show.

Star Sonequa Martin-Green was a guest on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. There she unveiled a clip that was partially shown in the show's trailer, as Commander Michael Burnham (Martin-Green) uses magnetic boots to walk on the outside of the Shenzhou, the ship on which she serves as First Officer, to meet a Klingon designated the Torchbearer in what appears to be some kind of ritual combat. You can see the clip above.

The following morning, Martin-Green made an appearance on CBS This Morning and debuted a second clip. This clip showed Brunham and Captain Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh) walking on some kind of desert planet. Yeoh asks her first officer what she would do if she were stranded on the planet for 86 years. Brunham replies that, as a xeno-anthropologist, she could assimilate into the local culture. When she asks what her captain would do, Georgiou simply tells Burnham that she would escape.

At that moment, Burnham notices they've found their own footprints in the sand and that they've walked in a circle. Georgiou says it's not quite a circle. Just then, the Shenzhou floats down to pick the two of them up. We know from the Discovery trailer that the shape in the sand is actually a Starfleet insignia used to signal for the ship.

With CBS pushing the marketing for Star Trek: Discovery into full gear, we expect to see more of the show before its premiere in late September.

Set 10 years prior to the five-year mission of the Enterprise in Star Trek: The Original Series, Star Trek: Discovery follows the adventures of Starfleet on their missions to discover new worlds and new lifeforms, and one Starfleet officer who must learn that to truly understand all things alien, you must first understand yourself. The series will feature a new ship, new characters, and new missions while embracing the same ideology and hope for the future that inspired a generation of dreamers and doers.

Star Trek: Discovery will debut on Sept. 24.
