Jason Isaacs Geeked Out Over Sitting In 'Star Trek: Discovery' Captain's Chair

Plenty of Star Trek fans have dreamed about what it may be like to sit in the captain's chair of a Starfleet vessel, and that seems to go for the stars of Star Trek: Discovery as well.

The cast of Star Trek: Discovery was on hand at Fan Expo in Canada over the weekend. During their panel, they each spoke about what moment most excited them as they began to become more fully engrossed in the Star Trek universe.

For Jason Isaacs, who plays Captain Gabriel Lorca of the USS Discovery, it was all about sitting in the captain's chair, which was a little intimidating at first.

"I try not to get too excited, but then we got onto the bridge there was a chair there, calling my name," Isaacs said. "It's going, 'Stick your ass on me' and I wouldn't do it. I spent the first two or three episodes conducting the war, standing like the torpedoes were members of an orchestra. I just put off sitting in the chair… My buttocks where William Shatner and Sir Patrick Stewart and so many others have placed their holy buttocks! It's too great."

Isaacs has expressed his passion for Star Trek previously, whether it's inviting fan outrage, challenging skeptical fans to give Discovery a chance, or sharing his hopes that Star Trek: Discovery may be able to send an important message about living in our present reality.

The war on Star Trek: Discovery that Isaacs references are one between the Federation and the Klingon Empire. It's unclear how the war starts, but lead character Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) is involved. In the trailers for Star Trek: Discovery, Burnham seems quite eager to engage the Klingons in battle even though they've had limited contact with the Federation at the time Star Trek: Discovery begins. The reason for this is likely because Burnham's parents died when Klingons attacked the Vulcan Learning Center. That Burnham's parents died while on Vulcan is part of why Sarek felt he was responsible for raising the child as his own.

Star Trek: Discovery premieres Sept. 24. The first episode will air on CBS and become simultaneously available, along with the second episode, on CBS All Access, where all remaining episodes will debut.
