Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson is giving a small role to an old friend from his previous movies.

Speaking at a press event in Japan, Johnson confirmed that Joseph Gordon Levitt, the lead actor from Johnson's Looper and Brick, will appear in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

"My very good friend, the actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who was in a movie I had made called Looper, he does a cameo as a voice of an alien in the film," Johnson said. "So it's a very brief little thing, but it's fun, and if you watch the movie maybe you'll able to hear and pick out Joe's voice in the movie."

In addition to starring in Johnson's Looper and Brick, Gordon-Levitt is an actor also favored by Christopher Nolan, how cast Gordon-Levitt in The Dark Knight Rises and Inception.

Johnson bringing Gordon-Levitt for Star Wars: The Last Jedi is in keeping with what is apparently a new Star Wars tradition. Director JJ Abrams also allowed James Bond star Daniel Craig to cameo as a stormtrooper in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi will continue the story of Rey, Finn, Poe Dameron, General Leia, and Luke Skywalker that began in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The third film in the Star Wars sequel trilogy was to be directed by Colin Trevorrow, but Lucasfilm has removed him from the project. Johnson is said to be among the top choices to replace Trevorrow.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi currently has a 4.07 out of 5 ComicBook.com User Anticipation rating, making it the most anticipated upcoming movie not based on a comic book among ComicBook.com users and the fifth most anticipated upcoming movie among ComicBook.com users overall.
