Mark Hamill Teases Relationship Between Luke And Rey

The Star Wars: The Last Jedi panel at Celebration Orlando was a departure in many ways from traditional convention settings in that it knew everyone in the fandom was watching -- many in expectation for the amazing trailer that released -- but also in that it did not hide some very telling information.

After making his opening remarks, Mark Hamill, went down the rest of the dais with how he sees them.

"I look down, I see Olaf (panel host, Josh Gad).

"I see Wonder Woman (Lucasfilm president, Kathleen Kennedy).

"I see God (The Last Jedi writer/director, Rian Johnson).

"I see my daught -- I mean my colleague, Daisy (Ridley, playing Rey).

"I see my son, (grabbing the arm of Finn actor, Jon Boyega, a reference that Hammil has been an on-set father to the actor, not a literal Star Wars reference).

"If this one was any cuter would be an actual Disney Princess (he said of Kelly Marie Tran who was brought on stage to discuss her role of Rose."

It was unquestionable the way that Hamill teased his relationship with Ridley that gained the audible reaction of the fans in attendance.

One of the most popular fan theories within the Star Wars community is that Rey is the daughter of Luke Skywalker and was born to some as-yet unidentified woman. Why this has become a leading theory is that it has already been shown that there is some connection between the two -- when she gets into her head, Luke sees that she has dreams of an isolated island in the middle of an ocean, which we now know is where she finds Luke at the end of The Force Awakens. The natural, and perhaps intended leap is, the genetic link binds them but it would also explain how she is so strong with the Force, as well as be a very good reason why Han and Leia each immediately recognize and treat her with such love; she would be their niece, after all.

There are several holes to this theory, as well as other convincing counter-points to what and who Rey is, but Hamill's tease did not go unnoticed.
