Rogue One: Joss Whedon On His Favorite Kinds Of Star Wars Movies

Last night an X-Wing landed in Hollywood as Star Wars took over the town at the world premiere of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

The red carpet even was live streamed across the galaxy so fans from around the globe could watch as their favorite Star Wars actors and characters arrived.

Joss Whedon, famed director and Star Wars fan, took a moment to tell Variety about what type of Star Wars movie he prefers.

"I like the fact that this is sort of an ancillary tale and isn't as beholdened as the structure of the big monument pictures, so you know I like the little side tales, there about these little scrappy people that history forgets, those are my favorite kinds."

There are so many stories within Star Wars canon that have never made it to the big screen. We're hoping that Rogue One: A Stars Wars Story is just the beginning of many more tales to come.

From Lucasfilm comes the first of the Star Wars standalone films, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, an all-new epic adventure. In a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire's ultimate weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is directed by Gareth Edwards and stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Riz Ahmed, Jiang Wen and Forest Whitaker. Kathleen Kennedy, Allison Shearmur and Simon Emanuel are producing, with John Knoll and Jason McGatlin serving as executive producers.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits theaters December 16, 2016.
