Lucasfilm Confirms No Bothans Appeared In 'Last Jedi' Photo Shoot

In 1983's Return of the Jedi, Mon Mothma explained that, "Many Bothans died..." to bring the Rebellion the plans to the Death Star II, instantly making audiences curious about who the Bothans were. The alien species have popped up in various books but never appeared in live-action films nor animated series, which are the only things Lucasfilm currently considers canon. A new photo shoot for Vanity Fair showed a group of various aliens, with one specific creature causing fans to infer we might finally be glimpsing a Bothan.

Bothans are said to resemble werewolves and were known for their skills at being a spy, so an incredibly tall creature like the one featured in this image would probably make for a terrible spy. Granted, we don't know what species the creature is, we just know that it isn't a Bothan.

The tallest creature in the photo above has similarities to images of Bothans, but when he grew tired of answering fans on Twitter, member of the Lucasfilm Story Group Pablo Hidalgo briefly changed his username in hopes of preventing further questioning.
