The Last Jedi: Details About New Resistance Starships

04/10/2017 04:20 pm EDT

The last couple of days has brought a lot of new information about Star Wars: The Last Jedi ahead of its rumored showcase at the upcoming Star Wars Celebration 2017 in Orlando.

We've heard new details regarding Supreme Leader Snoke, Poe Dameron, BB-8, Finn, and Laura Dern's new character. And we've also learned about Snoke's new "Mega" Star Destroyer, though it's not yet clear how it compares to the Super Star Destroyer first seen in the Empire Strikes Back.

Along with the reports of Dern's character Admiral Holdo comes word that she will be bringing some new ships to bolster the Resistance fleet.

Making Star Wars reported the details of Holdo's contributions to the Resistance firepower, adding that the new ships are "formidable."

They're sort of an abstract design but they have ball turrets on them just like the Clone Wars' Low Altitude Assault Transports from Attack of the Clones. Supposedly you can see the Resistance fighters in them as they blast TIEs and go up against Supreme Leader Snoke's Mega Destroyer. These ships were called "Honey Droppers" during production and the codename for the Mega Destroyer was the "100 Acre Wood."

Between details of Dern's character and these new spacecrafts, it sounds like Rian Johnson's installment will harken back to a lot of key appearances and designs from the Prequel Trilogy.

UP NEXT: New Info On Poe Dameron And BB-8's Roles

Will we get a clear idea of what kind of government the New Republic represented before the First Order wiped them out? Will we learn more about the ship's manufacturers and how they're able to support different military campaigns?

It's not likely that the next movie will delve into overtly political territory, but at least they're setting the stage for the new Canon to explore in future books, shows, and comics, should they choose to.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi will hit theaters on December 15.
