'The Force & The Fury' Fan Film Hunts For Jedi

In the brand-new short film from writer/director Jason Satterland, a stranded Jedi is pursued by a mysterious Sith, leading to an epic showdown.

Satterland has previously won a Geekie award for his steampunk series The Record Keeper, showing the dichotomy between angels and demons.

Of his latest effort, Satterland describes, "This…wasn't about a product or a service, it was an opportunity to expose on thing that makes us human—relationships. It's about how they split, heal, and scar over time."

Last December, Lucasfilm took a huge risk by releasing a live-action film that focused on characters outside of the Skywalker lineage with Rogue One. The film was a massive success, impressing audiences with its action, filmmaking style, and darker subject matter.

Many animated series, books, and video games have explored mythology from the Star Wars universe outside of the episodic theatrical installments, but nothing resonated as deeply with fans as films directly related to the Skywalkers.

Now that Rogue One has found so much success, fans are more apt to embrace live-action films that are set in further corners of that galaxy far, far away.

When Star Wars debuted in 1977, it instantly created a die-hard fanbase, allowing people to embrace their creative side to show their support of the series. This mostly involved recreating costumes and outfits to showcase in public outings, but thanks to advances in video equipment and the power of the internet in the '90s, fans took their passion to the next level.

One of the earliest Star Wars fan films was the parody series Troops, which took the structure of the popular TV show Cops and replaced police officers breaking up domestic disputes with Stormtroopers tracking down Jawas who were selling bad droids.

Another popular fan film was George Lucas in Love, showing how a young Lucas developed a crush on a girl while he was in film school and displayed the inspiration for many familiar facets of Star Wars.

Possibly the most famous Star Wars related internet video of all time has been dubbed "Star Wars Kid," which features a teenager swinging a golf ball retriever, mimicking The Phantom Menace's Darth Maul. Many mocked the teen featured in the video, but many also connected with him, as his moves might be awkward but showed just how much he loved imitating his favorite characters.
