Happy 'Fear The Walking Dead' Ending Means Dark Troubles Ahead

Sunday night's Fear the Walking Dead had a strangely happy ending. It's something fans of the Dead universe typically recognize as a sign of trouble ahead.

To cap La Serpiente, it seems as if all of the problems on Fear the Walking Dead are solved. A week ago, the Nation and Ranchers put their differences aside in an effort to live to together for the firs time. Now, Strand has lead Madison and Qaletaca to the solution to their biggest problem: a seemingly endless supply of water.

So, what can go wrong? According to Strand actor Colman Domingo... Everything.

"The moment I read that it had a pretty happy ending instead of a tongue and cheek ending, I got really nervous," Domingo tells ComicBook.com. "Because I thought, 'Boy do we have somewhere to fall from now?'"

Historically, happy endings on this zombie apocalypse are the first step towards a catastrophic series of events. Domingo is teasing just that in the five remaining episodes of Fear the Walking Dead's third season.

"Everything seems to be working well," Domingo said. "We're going to have water for the Ranch. We're going to bring a civilian back and it's all going to work out just fine. That made me really nervous. I'm like, 'Ah, I think that's set up,' because there's possibly going to be a greater fall because it's just the nature of things. As you try there's going to be complications, always. If you think you can just get from point A to point B in an apocalypse then you're a little... I don't think you're thinking with the right brain."

Domingo, having insight for the rest of the season, couldn't spoil exactly what the coming problems will be but teased where they may come from and how quickly they're going to escalate. "I think the idea that everything is going to work out well is really false hope," Domingo said. "I think as humans we believe that everything's going to work out fine. It's going to be a great day. We've got what we need. We're going to make this feel all of wonderful but there's so many complexities and things going on that we're not aware of. We have no idea what's happening at the Ranch. We have no idea what's going on at the dam as we leave. We have no idea might be compromised or people may be compromised. So even in a matter of a day or two, things can exasperate in such a wild manner. You have no idea."

The Walking Dead's sibling series Fear the Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9 pm ET on AMC. The Walking Dead will return for its eighth season on October 22, 2017.
