Supernatural Just Killed Off Two Main Characters

If you are a fan of Supernatural, then you know the show has a bad track record of keeping characters dead. Both Sam and Dean Winchester have died only to be brought back to life - and that is only the start. Throughout the series, plenty of characters have kicked it only to be brought back for some brief emotional bolstering later on. However, Supernatural has trended away from fake deaths as of late, but fans are hoping that changes ASAP. After all, the show's twelfth season just had its finale, and the episode left to fan-favorite characters dead.

In "All Along The Watchtower," Supernatural fans watched stunned as Crowley and Castiel were killed. The first of the two to die was Crowley, the King of Hell himself. The demon was whisked away to an alternate world where Sam and Dean never existed all to defeat Lucifer. When they tried to get back, the spell the trio used required a life in exchange. Crowley offered up his own as he had a personal vendetta against Lucifer; Sacrificing himself to trap the devil in an alternate reality was worth it to Crowley. The demon stabbed himself with an angel blade - which usually signals a rather permanent death - and his body was left behind when Sam and Dean were forced to leave thanks to their spell.

As for Castiel, things don't look much better for the poor angel. The man went stayed in the alternate reality where Lucifer was being held to settle a long score, but Castiel ultimately managed to make it back to the Winchesters. However, before the men could celebrate a job well done, Lucifer popped out from behind Castiel and stabbed in with an angel blade. Lying dead at Dean's feet, even the vetted Winchester did not see any way for his angelic friend to return - and that's saying something since Castiel has died thrice before.

For the first time in a while, it seems like Supernatural has offed some of its major players without any caveats to save them. Much in the way Ellen and Jo Harvelle went out, Crowley and Castiel gave their lives (yet again) to prevent hellish calamity from falling upon Earth. Supernatural is set to return with a thirteenth season next year, so there is a chance the show's executives will whip up a way to save these souls. After all, Castiel has been a fan-favorite character since he was introduced in season four.
