WWE: Alexa Bliss Speaks On How Far Women's Wrestling Has Come Without Old Restrictions

12/24/2016 04:10 pm EST

Alexa Bliss, like many superstars, has endured a long journey to get to where she is today. All that hard work has culminated into becoming Smackdown Live Women's Champion, a title she took by force from previous Champion Becky Lynch at TLC this year.

For Bliss and many other female superstars, the landscape has changed quite a bit since they entered WWE developmental, now known as NXT. There was a time not that long ago that having Sasha Banks and Charlotte go at it in a cage match on Hell in a Cell was unheard of, and likewise, for her and Becky Lynch's tables match at TLC.

For Bliss, there's no better time to be in WWE then right now, and she spoke a bit about how far women's wrestling has come in WWE in a recent interview with The Oakland Press (via SEScoops).

"I think it's an amazing time right now for the WWE's women's division," Bliss says. "We're really stepping up the game and showing the women's revolution and what women can do. I remember even when I started with WWE, it was a different ball game," she adds. "There were all these restrictions and things we couldn't do, and now, it's really empowering to know we can do anything that we want and what the guys can do. It gives women the opportunity to show why we're more than divas and why we're WWE superstars."

The WWE has made big strides since the heyday of the Attitude era, where despite a fantastic feud between Trish Stratus and Lita there wasn't much positive to speak of unless you count bra and panties matches as a positive. Now the female superstars are being booked like their male counterparts, with storylines that don't revolve solely around the men. Bliss is proud to be a part of this new era for women's wrestling, and can't wait to see what's next.

"It feels amazing, especially being a male-dominated sport, to be at the forefront of WWE," she says. "To have women that are main eventing and making history, time after time. It's so empowering, and I can't wait to see what the future holds."
