WWE Edits Fan Reaction To Roman Reigns US Championship Loss
01/17/2017 04:26 pm EST
When you go back to watch highlights of Roman Reigns career on the WWE Network ten years from now, chances are you will hear an adoring crowd shower Reigns with cheers. It will appear as if Roman Reigns' popularity in 2016-17 was at Hulkamania/Stone Cold levels. This will, of course, all be a lie, but the WWE doesn't care that you know that. The WWE is banking on the their version of history becoming the only one the majority of fans remember. The best part are they aren't waiting ten years to change history.
WWE edited a fan's reaction to Roman Reigns losing the U.S. Championship on last week's episode of WWE RAW. As seen in the video above at the 2:33 mark, a fan started jumping up and down for joy. However, in the opening video package of last night's show, an edit was made to show that same fan in shock after Jericho's victory.
Here is a link to the two videos side by side.
Last May, fans noticed when the WWE edited a fan's "When It Reigns It Bores" poster to simply say "When It Reigns."
While I understand wanting to protect your top babyface, I don't think the treatment is doing Reigns any favors. If the WWE had let him lean into the boos, chances are he'd already have turned heel and back to face by now; having gained the fans' respect along the way.
