WWE: Kenny Omega Puts AJ Styles Vs Cena In Its Place

01/31/2017 01:18 pm EST

Kenny Omega had one of the classic matches against Okada at New Japan's Wrestle Kingdom 11 earlier this year. Ever since the talented superstar has been the subject of WWE rumors, and some even thought he might show up at the Royal Rumble.

That did not come to pass, and he's likely to resign with New Japan, but that hasn't stopped the Omega and WWE comparisons. AJ Styles and John Cena's match at the Royal Rumble has become a common part of the discussion, with many holding it up to Omega and Okada's previous work. Omega took to Twitter to address that comparison.

"You can't compare apples and oranges. And at the end of the day, I could easily have Cena and AJ's best match in WWE. There is no argument."

While he says the comment was meant more as an appreciation of wrestling in general, it's hard to not take it as a slight against Cena and AJ's match. He added fuel to the fire by comparing Japan's atmosphere to America's, saying "way more pressure having to perform high-quality matches in Japan. Both athletically and mentally."

While he views New Japan's work above WWE's, or at least it appears that way, he does highly regard the talent in WWE, saying "I said I had no interest in NXT. No disrespect to talent, just not interested in the promotion." When someone brought up fan favorite Cesaro as a possible matchup down the line, Omega has nothing but great things to say. "one of the absolute best. Complete all rounder."

Maybe one day fans will get to see that matchup on a WWE stage. Who knows right? Crazier things have happened.
