Constantine: Last Night's Episode Teased Justice League Menace The Demons Three

Last night's episode of Constantine teased DC Comics villains the Demons Three...and we didn't even notice.

Pictured above are artifacts used by Felix Faust in Justice League of America #10 (waaaaay back in 1962) to summon Abnegazar, Rath and Gast, collectively known as the Demons Three. They've been recurring threats, usually tied to either Faust or Neron, ever since.

Anyone can summon the power of the Demons Three by possessing (and utilizing) three artifacts: the Green Bell of Uthool, the Silver Wheel of Nyorlath and the Red Jar of Calythos. In the JLA/Avengers crossover, these objects are part of the twelve items of power sought by the heroes.

Production designer Dave Blass, who directed us to the image in the first place, posted it to Instagram with a caption that makes it totally clear what we're looking at.

That headband there also looks like one that Faust has worn in the comics.

The Demons Three were last seen prior to the New 52, when they were plotting to escape Hell in a backup story in Teen Titans. Before that, their artifacts had appeared both in Teen Titans and in 52, where Ralph Dibny encountered the Wheel during his storyline, which saw him (eventually) square off with Faust and Neron.

What Blass means by they "may be on their way" isn't immediately clear; with only three episodes to go this season, though, it could be that these were meant to lay groundwork for next year, or at least for the episodes that were written but will not be filmed this year.
