Josh Gad Says, Gilligan's Island Reboot Takes "Very Different Approach"

Frozen and Wedding Ringer star Josh Gad was a guest on Larry King Now and he had a playful discussion with King about who he might be playing in the Gilligan's Island reboot as well as his new approach to the material.
"I'm co-writing it and the idea is that I would star in it," Gad told King during Larry King Now's 500th episode. King asked Gad if he'll play Gilligan. Gad replied, "I'm not telling you, Larry." King pointed out that if he is "starring" in it that implies he should be Gilligan. "I couldn't be a Skipper? I couldn't be Ginger if I played my card rights?" Gad fired back.
"We're trying to take a really different approach," Josh stated. "The show is so beloved and we need to modernize it but also pay homage to the original."
The original Gilligan's Island television series ran from 1964 to 1967. It only lasted three seasons, but the re-runs have thrived over the decades. The cast included Bob Denver as Gilligan, Alan Hale JR as the Skipper, Jim Backus as Thurston Howell III, Natalie Schaefer as Lovie Howell, Tina Louise as Ginger, Russell Johnson as the Professor, and Dawn Wells as Mary Ann.
