According to The Hollywood Reporter, Brad Peyton will helm 20th Century Fox's feature film adaptation of the sci-fi thriller Malignant Man. It's based on the 2011 graphic novel that was co-written by James Wan and Michael Alan Nelson, illustrated by Piotr Kowalski, and published by Boom! Studios.

Alan Gates, a cancer patient with a terminal diagnosis, is resigned to his fate...until he discovers that his tumor is actually a mysterious parasite! Granted a second lease on life and incredible, otherworldly powers, Alan must fight against an evil army buried beneath society's skin, all the while unlocking the secrets of his forgotten past. Dark, twisted, and unlike anything else on the stands

The script was penned by Zak Olkewicz. Wan, Peyton, and Boom!'s Ross Richie and Stephen Christy are producing the project. Adam Yoelin of Boom! is co-producing. Jeff Fierson, Peyton's partner at their Factory Backwards shingle, will executive produce. Matt Reilly and Ryan Jones are overseeing for Fox.

Peyton is best known for directing 2012's Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (grossed $335 million worldwide) and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's 2015 disaster flick, San Andreas (grossed $473 million worldwide).

As for Wan, the talented filmmaker has been churning out hit movie ever since he unveiled the first Saw movie in 2004, which started it on a path to becoming the highest grossing horror franchise of all time. Wan's also well known for Insidious (2011), The Conjuring (2011), Furious 7 (2015), and The Conjuring 2 (2016), which just opened this past weekend in North America with $40.4 million. And not too far down the road, Wan will begin directing Jason Momoa's Aquaman solo film for Warner Brothers.
