Icon of 1980s teen cinema Molly Ringwald is bringing that nostalgic charm to The CW's television adaptation of classic Archie Comics characters, Riverdale.

Ringwald will have a recurring guest role on the series as Archie Andrews' mother, Mary Andrews.

According to Variety, Mary Andrews left the town of Riverdale two years ahead of the start of Riverdale series in order to follow her dreams. She returns to Riverdale at Homecoming in order to help her family through a trying time and reconnects with her husband Fred (Luke Perry) and high school friends Hermione and Alice.

Riverdale is a production of Warner Bros. Television and executive producer Greg Berlanti, of Supergirl and The Flash fame. Riverdale brings the classic Archie Comics cast of Archie, Jughead, Betty, Veronica and friends into the modern day for a subversive take on their iconic personalities, subverting expectations with a surreal take on the darkness of suburban life.

Berlanti is executive-producing alongside Sarah Schechter, Jon Goldwater, and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who wrote the Riverdale pilot. Lee Toland Krieger directed the pilot.

Riverdale stars K.J. Apa as Archie, Camila Mendes as Veronica, Lili Reinhart as Betty, Cole Sprouse as Jughead, and Madelaine Petsch as Cheryl and Ashleigh Murray as Josie.

Ringwald will appear in episodes 10 and 11 of Riverdale's first season. Here television resume includes The Secret Life of the American Teenager and a guest role on Bravo's Odd Mom Out.

Riverdale premieres Thursday, Jan. 26 at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
