Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic Getting Unreal Engine 4 Fan Remaster

BioWare's 2003 Star Wars RPG Knights of the Old Republic is getting an Unreal Engine 4 remaster courtesy of Poem Studios.

The unofficial project, dubbed Knight of the Old Republic: Apeiron, will not only recreate the game's original content in the state of the art graphics engine, but will also include additional content, such as new worlds and missions, a new interface and inventory system, new items, and new companions.

According to the Apeiron website, Poem believes the project to be completely legal, citing Black Mesa and Renegade X (unofficial remakes of Half-Life and Command & Conquer Renegade) as precedent, though it should be noted that both of those projects eventually received approval from the original developers.

When the game is complete it will be released for free, since the studio cannot charge for an intellectual property owned by Disney, but they do plan to begin accepting donations once more significant progress on the game has been made.
