In many ways, Capcom's Umbrella Corps is shaping up to be the game they promised Operation Racoon City was going to be. For the uninitiated, Umbrella Corps is an up-tempo third person multiplayer shooter set in the Resident Evil universe.

The gameplay looks quick and frantic, with rounds being limited to 3 minutes each as to expedite the pace. Capcom announced today the inclusion of a multi-mission mode, which has each round rotating between six different gameplay types. Much like Killzone in this regard, it requires the players to adapt to new strategies on the fly, and should help keep the multiplayer fresh.

The rounds are broken up into Target Hunter, Respawn Match, Domination, DNA Hunter, SP DNA Hunter, Collector, Protector, and Collar War. Most of these will be familiar to multiplayer shooter fans. Respawn Match is just typical Deathmatch, and modes like Domination, Collecter, and Protector are the basic guard this until the timer runs down modes. The ones that have me excited are DNA Hunter and SP DNA Hunter, which have you killing zombies and then collecting their DNA. This injects some Resident Evil goodness into the multiplayer formula, and you can stall the other team by destroying their Zombie Jammer, allowing the undead to go after them while you clean up.

The game looks chaotic, but in a fun way, and I hope they truly deliver on their promises. The game will release digitally on PS4 and PC sometime in May, and will retail for 29.99.
