Dragon Ball fans, you might want to sit down. For some years now, anime diehards have been waiting for Gohan to get his act together following his downturn at the end of Dragon Ball Z. The half-Saiyan peaked during his mystic fight with Super Buu, but the hero's cocky attitude left him and his reputation smarting for years. Dragon Ball Super has finally taken steps to redeem Gohan's lacking power levels, and the anime is poised to put the hero through an ultimate test next week.

That's right. Gohan is about to challenge his father Goku to a match, and the pair will duke it out in a long-awaited tag team match.

According to a new episode synopsis for Dragon Ball Super's 89th episode, Gohan is getting ready to challenge Goku to a battle after regaining the ability to go mystic last episode. Since Gohan has been training with Piccolo, the teacher-pupil pair will go up against Goku after the hero brings Tenshinhan to his team.

You can read the most recent synopsis for "Facing the Wall That Must Be Overcome! Goku VS Gohan" below:

"Witness the father-son showdown!
In "Dragon Ball Super", after finishing his training, Gohan challenges Gokuu!

Gohan & Piccolo VS Gokuu and Tenshinhan?!
Through his training with Piccolo, Gohan came to realize that the one he must surpass is his father Gokuu. So he teams up with Piccolo and they take on the duo of Gokuu and Tenshinhan! Facing Gohan, who having finished his training has now obtained unprecedented power, Gokuu will…?!"

Of course, fans are beyond excited to see the showdown, but there are plenty of anime enthusiasts concerned about the encounter. Until very recently, Gohan has struggled to keep his fighting form up to par, and Piccolo only just managed to get the boy back to his mystic state. If Gohan is somehow able to overcome Goku and Tenshinhan after a few hours of training, the loyal fanbase will be up in arms about the anime's skewed take on power levels.

Still, Dragon Ball has thrived off unexpected power-ups for years now. Gohan has always been said to have infinite potential when it comes to fight, and his father has managed to do some tricky power level pick-ups in the past. In the past, Goku has managed to multiply his power levels from 90,000 to 150,000,000. If anyone can pull of another move like that, it's Gohan.

Dragon Ball Super's "Universal Survival" saga is part of the recent simulcast agreement that sites like Crunchyroll and Funimation have scored. Dragon Ball Super airs on Crunchyroll Saturdays at 7:15 p.m. CST. Toonami will begin airing the English dub on Adult Swim Saturdays at 11:30 p.m.
