Netflix Reveals New Death Note Poster

In just a matter of months, the U.S. will be introduced to Death Note in a way it hasn't before. Tsugumi Ohba may have brought the series to life back in December 2003, but Netflix is gearing up to make the supernatural story the next big thing in the west. Over a decade after the Death Note anime ended, the global streaming site will release its live-action adaptation of the Japanese franchise. And, now, a slew of new posters and adverts for them film have been released.

Currently, the 2017 Licensing Expo is underway, and studios are dropping new images for their upcoming projects everywhere the press looks. New images for Jurassic World 2 and Transformers: The Last Knight have been spotted, but anime fans are more interested in the Death Note posters seen at the convention.

The images don't show any new pictures for leads Light and L, but it does give fans a look at the feature's aesthetic. In one poster, a picture of Light and L meeting at a dimly cafe can be seen as the words "Shall We Begin?" hang over them. Above the caption, fans can then see a shadowy image of L as the detective covers his face and walked down a mirrored hallway.

In another image, Light can be seen picking up his Death Note for the first time, and a phrase is seen hanging above the character as well. "The human whose name is written in this note shall die," the caption reads, and anime fans will be familiar with how that saying came to be.

What if you had the power to decide who lives and who dies? We suggest you obey the rules. Based on the famous Japanese manga written by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, Death Note follows a high school student who comes across a supernatural notebook, realizing it holds within it a great power; if the owner inscribes someone's name into it while picturing their face, he or she will die. Intoxicated with his new godlike abilities, the young man begins to kill those he deems unworthy of life.

Death Note will be available to stream on Netflix beginning August 25, 2017.
