Batman: The Telltale Series Drawing Performance Complaints On Steam

Superhero games are continuing to struggle on Steam with the release of Batman – The Telltale Series episode one. The game has amassed over 400 reviews since its release yesterday, and many are raising serious concerns about the game's playability. Complaints focus on the game's resolution, framerate, and lag issue.

Players have reported a problem in trying to change the game's resolution. The process of applying the change is confusing in and of itself, but even if players succeed, their mouse's cursor become invisible, making the game unplayable.

Those who are able to the game report problems with the game's sound, frequent crashes, and an abysmal drop in framerate, bottoming at a sluggish 10 fps.

Some players have speculated that the issue comes down to how Batman – The Telltale Series interacts with a computer's graphics processor, claiming that the game uses a computer integrated graphics processor rather than the dedicated graphics processor, causing the poor performance. This is said to be especially true with laptop computers.

While reviewers insist that "You could have a PC built by Jesus Christ himself and this game still will run at 10 fps," Polygon tested (and reviewed) the game on a high-end PC and didn't have a problem. With PC hardware varying so greatly, it could be difficult to replicate specific issues.

This is the second time in recent memory that a Batman game has suffered a problematic PC launch. Batman: Arkham Knight had a pretty disastrous PC debut last summer. It's not a problem unique to the Dark Knight, though, as Activision's Marvel Ultimate Alliance remasters have also been plagued with problems since launch.
