Rick Cosnett Confirms His Return To The Flash

01/16/2017 02:01 pm EST

Last week, it was revealed that Ronnie Raymond was returning to The Flash on CW, but it's now been confirmed that another former character is speeding back onto the series this year.

Rick Cosnett, who played Eddie Thawne, just tweeted that he is definitely coming back to the show. He revealed no other plot details or ideas with the message, just that he's returning.

Thawne was Iris West's boyfriend as the series began, causing a little disdain between him and Barry. As the story went on however, Thawne became much more important to The Flash's world.

It was revealed that Thawne was an ancestor of Reverse Flash, who has been the cause of Barry's issues from the beginning. In order to save his friends - along with the rest of the world - Thawne decides to take his own life. This action was designed to stop his genetic line before Reverse Flash ever had the chance of being born.

Since his death, Thawne has only appeared once, in a flashback episode. It's unclear whether or not Cosnett's return to the show will be utilized in flashbacks, or if the alternate universes created by the Flashpoint have brought him back.

With two return confirmations in the last week, fans are beginning to wonder if they could see more fallen characters re-enter the fold this season. Only time will tell.
