Lois & Clark's Dean Cain Comments On Teri Hatcher Supergirl Involvement

The CW's superhero shows have a knack for paying homage to the ever-expanding superhero world that came before them. Aside from frequent Easter eggs, this often includes casting actors who previously appeared in other superhero properties.

While The Flash has done this several times (casting John Wesley Shipp, Mark Hamill, and Amanda Pays, all of whom appeared on the 1990s The Flash television show), the biggest amount of this has been seen on Supergirl. In its season-and-a-half of airing, the show has featured appearances from the likes of Helen Slater (who played Supergirl in a 1984 self-titled movie), Laura Vandervoort (who played the same role for years on Smallville), and Lynda Carter (the original Wonder Woman).

A recent addition to that list is Teri Hatcher, who previously played Lois Lane on Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. It was recently reported that Hatcher is signed on for a multiple-episode mystery role in the tail end of Supergirl's second season.

Hatcher's Lois & Clark co-star, Dean Cain, recently weighed in on the casting in an interview with Heroic Hollywood. Cain played Superman in the 1990s series, and has become an established part of Supergirl as the title character's foster father, Jeremiah Danvers.

"Teri Hatcher is going to be on Supergirl, which is pretty amazing!"

Given Jeremiah's involvement with this season, as a prisoner of the evil organization CADMUS, many are wondering if Hatcher's role is tied to that storyline. If that were true, it would be an interesting reversal of the guest appearances the pair had on Smallville, in which Hatcher played Lois Lane's mom while Cain played an antagonist.

"I can't say who she is playing, although I might know." Cain said, pointing out that "It's been 20-something years since we were on screen together."

As of now, even Cain doesn't know how long Hatcher's appearance on the show will last. "She is going to do an arc, [but] I'm not sure how long she will be on there."

This addition of Hatcher to the show is a welcome addition for fans of both series. After Lois & Clark ran on ABC for four years, it has since accumulated a sort of cult following, making the possible reunion between Hatcher and Cain a highly-anticipated moment of Supergirl's second season.

Supergirl airs Monday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
