Will The Flash Season 3 Storyline Bring Supergirl Into CW's DC TV Universe?

Supergirl the series is moving to a new network for Season 2, leaving CBS behind and joining the CW's lineup of DC Comics branded television. Just as Supergirl the show is traveling across networks, it sounds like Supergirl the character, and her supporting cast, may be making a new home in a new universe.

Bleeding Cool is reporting a rumor that the end result of the "Flashpoint" story arc running through The Flash Season 3 will see the Supergirl universe merged with the universe of The Flash, Arrow, and DC's Legends of Tomorrow. Only Barry Allen, who visited the Supergirl universe as a guest star on a Season 1 episode of the show, will remember that Supergirl's original universe ever existed separately, and any inconsistencies in continuity will be offhandedly attributed to time travelers mucking about.

Adding Supergirl and her cousin, Superman (who, played by Tyler Hoechlin, will debut in Season 2), to the same universe as the Flash feels like it throws off some of The Flash's history. The shock and awe displayed by most characters when metahumans were first appearing in Central City may have been tempered a bit if Kryptonians had been flying around Metropolis and National City for a while. Blame time travelers.

Yesterday, Stephen Amell tweeted a photo hinting that production on the network crossover between Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow, and Legends of Tomorrow was underway. Perhaps that big event will be what brings these two universes together.

Supergirl Season 2 premieres Oct. 10 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
