Wonder Woman: David Thewlis Reveals Surprising Details About His Role

In just a matter of weeks, the world will no longer need to wait for Wonder Woman's standalone debut. Come June, the DC icon will get her own live-action solo film, and critics cannot stop raving about the feature. Unlike its predecessors, Wonder Woman has captured the hearts of the press and led some to compare its impact to that of Christopher Nolan's take on Batman. Still, there is much about the film which fans don't know - and Wonder Woman's villain ranks up there. Details about Ares and David Thewlis involvement with the character have been kept on the down-low, but it looks like the actor is now speaking out about his role.

And, as you will see, Thewlis is dishing out some rather surprising details about his supposedly villainous work.

Thanks to Warner Bros. Pictures, a slew of behind-the-scenes interviews with the cast of Wonder Woman have hit the Internet. In one chat, Thewlis appears and is asked about his work on the film. The actor, whose role is so-far credited as Sir Patrick Morgan, had this to say about his role:

"Sir Patrick's entire drive through the other half of the story is to bring about the armistice. That's his whole intention no matter what's going on. He meets Diana and see in her somebody who is sympathetic to his cause quite vehemently so."

Obviously, Patrick doesn't sound like the menacing figure which Ares is made out to be in the comics. Thewlis has long been attached to the Wonder Woman villain, so plenty are wondering how Patrick and Ares connect in the upcoming DCEU flick. The villain is one who can't help but advocate for war, but it looks like Patrick is a passive man who champions a peaceful armistice during World War I. Clearly, the two sides are in opposition of one another, but Wonder Woman could easily harbor a twist which combines the polar-opposite men.

So far, Wonder Woman has yet to give any clear looks at Ares, and the character will be brought to life via CGI. Thewlis may not bring loads of physicality to the role, but his work as Patrick may help set the stage of Ares' dramatic reveal. The film's trailer so far cast Danny Houston's character to be the villainous as he knocks heads with Wonder Woman over his love of war. With him and Doctor Poison in apparent cahoots, Wonder Woman will certainly herself busy taking on the duo, leaving Patrick free to do whatever he needs to make way for Ares' ultimate plot. And, as planned, Diana Prince will never see the betrayal coming.
