Apparently, nostalgia pays, as Activision has revealed the recently-released Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy was the top-selling game worldwide in June. That's a particularly impressive accomplishment, as N. Sane Trilogy launched at the very tail-end of the month on June 30.

But wait, wasn't Tekken 7 the top-selling game of June? According to the NPD Group's monthly top 10, yes, but that list was only based on North American sales. Activision's numbers take into account the whole globe, including the UK and Australia, where the game has been selling particularly well. Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg wasn't too proud to do a little crowing about Crash's newfound success.

"The fan response to Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy has been tremendous with the title landing at number one worldwide in physical game sales, even though it was only on shelves for a single day in June. We're thrilled that there seems to be a whole lot of people out there who love Crash as much we do."

As we reported, N. Sane Trilogy had a presence at San Diego Comic-Con, with Activision revealing they plan to release the long-lost "Stormy Ascent" stage from the original Crash Bandicoot

"To thank Crash fans for their support, we're excited to release Stormy Ascent, the infamous unfinished level from the original game for the very first time. And it's free to fans for the first month. We look forward to watching some epic speed runs online!"

The success of N. Sane Trilogy has definitely opened a lot of eyes, and Activision and developer Vicarious Visions have teased more retro remakes, including a Spyro the Dragon collection, may be on the way. It's time to platform like it's 1999 again.

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is available right now for PS4.
