Nintendo Switch Version Of Overcooked Has Serious Performance Issues, But A Fix Is Coming

Have you got a chance to play Overcooked yet? Well, you need to get on that, because the co-op kitchen management game is really, really good. Or, at least it is on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 – unfortunately, it seems the newly-released Nintendo Switch version has some issues.

Recently the tech gurus at Eurogamer's Digital Foundry gave the Switch version of Overcooked a taste test, and came away unimpressed. Despite Overcooked's rather modest cartoon visual style, the game fails to hit 30fps on the Switch, hovering around 23 to 24fps, with occasional dips even lower. Others have also taken issue with the game's rumble, as sometimes one player's actions will cause another player's controller to vibrate.

Thankfully, Overcooked developer Ghost Town Games have vowed to alleviate the issues:

"We're currently working on an update to improve the frame rate issues folks have been seeing and hoping to roll out any changes as soon as we're able to."

Overcooked challenges you and up to three other chefs to keep up with endless barrage of orders across of variety of challenging, and sometimes downright strange, kitchens. Trust me, Overcooked is one of the most ingenious co-op experiences I've ever played, and stands shoulder-to-shoulder with other recent local multiplayer indie hits like Rocket League and TowerFall. You should give the game a shot even if can't cook toast in real life.

Overcooked: Special Edition for Nintendo Switch includes the original game, and all its expansions, including The Last Morsel and The Festive Seasoning. Hopefully Ghost Town deliver their promised Switch patch soon, because Overcooked is perfectly-suited to Nintendo's new console and deserves every success.
