Report: Is Overwatch Teasing A New Map Or A Potential New Hero?

Even though it's Memorial Day, there's still plenty happening with Overwatch this weekend. The free trial weekend is winding down in just a few hours; and the game is still on sale, both with its regular edition and its Game of the Year Edition, which recently came out.

But today, the company's official blog page teased something that could very well be on the horizon – and it appears to revolve around the Horizon Lunar Colony.

"For the first time in years after Horizon Lunar Colony went offline, new information has been revealed as to the fate of the program," the post teases. "At a press conference today, Lucheng Interstellar revealed the surprising fact that the colony's databases and monitoring systems are still up and running this day. While no direct communication has been established with the facility, the company has successfully retrieved interpersonnel logs sent days and moments before the base lost contact with earth. Below are some of the transmissions Lucheng shared."

The posts, which you can see in the attached gallery, all seem to chain together into the escape of a subject from the station, starting with gorillas being confined to their quarters, followed by a ventilation system inspection; more details about the missing subject (Hammond); a station emergency (basically a malfunction with the airlock); and inventory that goes awry following the outbreak.

With the final post, the team notes, "Lucheng Interstellar has released its first image of the colony's still-operating integrated monitoring systems. A Lucheng spokesperson told Atlas News the connection is unstable, but the company is working around the clock to gather new information."

So what does it mean? Blizzard isn't making it clear, but usually, it goes into story mode like this right before it announces new content for the game. That indicates that we could very well be getting a new map for the game (taking place on the Lunar Colony), or perhaps a new character that shares traits with one of the Heroes in Overwatch, Winston.

We'll probably have more information over the course of the week, so be sure to check back to see what's uncovered!

Overwatch is available now for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.
