Sonic Forces E3 Trailer Unveils Multiple Villains, Including An All-New Threat

The world is in a bit of a rough state in Sonic Forces, with Dr. Robotnik (I will never call him Dr. Eggman) having conquered 99 percent of the planet. How did the Doc finally manage to win out (at least temporarily) against Sonic and his furry buddies? Well, turns out he had some serious help.

Sega just dropped a new E3 2017 Sonic Forces trailer, and the first half of it largely focuses on stuff most fans already know. The game lets you play as Modern Sonic, Classic Sonic, or your own, customizable hero, and the will feature a mix of 3D and 2D gameplay much like the well-received Sonic Generations. Thankfully, the second half of the trailer contains some surprises.

It seems Robotnik has gathered his own Injustice League, featuring basically all the Sonic the Hedgehog series' secondary villains. The team includes a once-again-evil Shadow, Metal Sonic, Chaos from Sonic Adventure, and the Deadly Six from Sonic Colors. But wait, that's not all the villainy Sonic Forces has in store for players! The game also features an all-new baddie named Infinite, who has a rather edgy look and the ability to summon magical cubes he can use as weapons. My money's still on Sonic, but he has his work cut out for him.

In addition to the new villain, Sonic Forces unveils plenty of new gameplay footage, including looks at a couple bosses. One of the bosses, which appears in one of the 2D stages, has bat wings and attacks with a big Gatling gun, while the other is an intimidating giant spider that chases players through a 3D stage. It's always best to be cautious with Sonic, but I have to say, this game is looking promising.

Sonic Forces dashes on PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch this holiday season.
