Splatoon 2 "Answer the Call to Battle" Trailer Will Have You Ready to Conquer the Battlefield

It's almost time to claim some turf. Old friendships are about to be destroyed, new alliances are about to be forged, and things are about to get very, very messy. Splatoon 2 drops on July 21, and Nintendo freshest new IP is going to launch bigger, faster, and more colorful than ever. Check out the brand new "Answer the Call to Battle" trailer above to get a taste of things to come.

Splatoon stole our hearts when it was introduced on the Wii U back in 2015. It was unlike anything we had ever seen, and Nintendo managed to take and twist the team based third-person shooter genre in a way that only Nintendo can. It's hyper-colorful, it's fast, it's competitive, and it's fun. The entire world went into this game with low expectations, and emerged completely addicted to something they never knew they needed before. Even though Nintendo continued to support Splatoon with monthly updates and free content for over a year, we've been anxiously awaiting a proper sequel where Nintendo could take these core concepts and evolve them; perfect them.

Can I give you guys one piece of pivotal advice? This is mainly for those of you who missed the original Splatoon on the Wii U. When you get Splatoon 2 loaded up on your Nintendo Switch, no matter which controller setup you end up using, make sure you start learning how to use the gyro controls from day one. You'll be much better off that way.

It will feel awkward at first. You'll want to honor your years and countless hours spent playing Call of Duty and default to the dual-stick control scheme because that's what will feel the most familiar, but using the gyro controls will grant you a level of precision and speedy target acquisition that people using the thumb sticks will never be able to replicate. It brings the accuracy and speed of mouse aiming to a home console in a way that feels natural and empowering once you get used to it. I can tell you this from personal experience -- after hundreds of hours spend with Splatoon and hands-on time spent with Splatoon 2.
