The Evil Within is a horror experience that comes with its own fair share of mind games as well, so jumping into the next game in the series without fully understanding or remembering the contents of the first will likely be pretty confusing. Bethesda wants to make sure that players can seamless pick up on The Evil Within 2 after it's released though, so they've provided a FAQ on their site to answer some of the questions that new and old players might have about The Evil Within 2.

The FAQ kicks off by insisting that players don't need to know anything about The Evil Within in order to play the next game in the series, but of course, some background info would make the experience much more enjoyable.

According to the answers provided, the Sebastian that we'll see in the new Evil Within game isn't the same as the one before. Previously, he was a reluctant participate in the shared-consciousness STEM world, but now, he's willingly diving into the messed up world in order to save his daughter. This STEM device connects users' minds to an alternate world, a sequence described in the FAQ that's "like if Freddy Krueger made the Matrix." Players find out more about STEM and the mysterious company that runs it called Mobius in The Evil Within's two DLCs.

The second game kicks off with the returning protagonist, Sebastian, attempting to hunt down Mobius, but many aren't willing to help him due to how crazy his story sounds. When he goes back into the STEM world — this time being a new world instead of Krimson City called Union — he's looking for his missing daughter, Lily.

Juli Kidman will be a returning character in the new game, but the answers provided in the FAQ promise that The Evil Within 2 will feature almost an entirely new cast of characters. The new world the game takes place in is built from Lily's mind and her memories, so characters that Sebastian knows and encountered in the first game naturally wouldn't be appearing.

Check out the full FAQ on Bethesda's website here to answer any questions that you might still have before you pick up The Evil Within 2 on Oct. 13.
