Worms WMD Exploding On Nintendo Switch Later This Year

Yesterday, while we were watching Nintendo's "Nindies" presentation for the Nintendo Switch, we couldn't help but notice a listing for Team 17's Worms WMD amongst the titles – even though it hasn't been officially confirmed yep. Welp, the team decided to take good care of that this morning.

The publisher has confirmed that the hit multiplayer game will be coming to Nintendo Switch later this year. In addition, it'll offer all sorts of options for versus battles, including local and online multiplayer, single JoyCon support, as well as the ability to take on Forts Mode, in which you'll be able to challenge other friends for even more superiority.

Team 17 has also confirmed that the game will have a number of new features added, including a brand new space theme, mushroom and tree forts, along with customization options galore, letting you alter everything from outfits to gravestones. Yep, you can add some color to your tombstone if that suits your fancy.

The game doesn't have an exact release date or price, but it should arrive later this year, and should be somewhere around $19.99, maybe less.

Worms WMD already made a big, ahem, impact when it debuted back in August 2016 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, becoming an instant multiplayer favorite amongst the community. It's easy to see why, since the game feels more like a spiritual successor to the classic Worms 2: Armageddon, rather than something that fits into the new line of games.

In case you're not familiar with what Worms is – and boy, you should be – the game is all about tactical battling on an enclosed map, where the goal is to wipe out your opposing team with a number of attacks. But this isn't a typical battle, as you'll take on all kinds of worms (including redneck worms) using a variety of weapons, from banana bombs to exploding sheep to the Holy Hand Grenade. Someone likes Monty Python.

We'll let you know how the game shapes up over the next few months, but if the Switch port is anything like the previous versions of Worms WMD, we're in for one explosively good time. Let the wars at the office commence!
