Earlier this week Xbox One X pre-orders finally went live, and it seems fans were eager to get their hands on Microsoft's sexy new machine, as it almost immediately sold out. GameStop and Amazon blew through their allotment of the limited run Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition within minutes, and other retailers soon followed.

Things certainly seem to be going well for the Xbox One X, but how do its pre-orders stack up against past Xbox models? Well, according to Microsoft, the Xbox One X is the company's fastest-selling pre-order ever. Not bad! Here's what GameStop had to say about Xbox One X:

"Microsoft has done it again! The innovation and power behind the new Xbox One X console is driving excitement and demand among our customers worldwide. The speed at which we sold through our initial pre-order supply surpassed expectations, and what we experienced with pre-orders for the original Xbox One console. This new system is definitely going to change how video games are played!"

Did you miss out on pre-ordering an Xbox One X this week? Don't worry – only the limited Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition was offered this week. Microsoft is promising there will be another chance to claim a standard model Xbox One X before launch.

There's been a lot of skepticism about the Xbox One X, particularly after it lost its biggest launch title, but it seems there was some pent-up hunger for the machine. Maybe there's only a small niche who are interested in the system, and sales will drop off quickly after launch, but, for now, the console looks like a success.

The Xbox One X hits shelves (for probably a very limited time) on November 7. You can check out WWG's latest Xbox One coverage here.
