20th Century Fox Returns To San Diego Comic-Con

07/06/2017 02:31 pm EDT

San Diego Comic-Con is always a hot spot for superhero movie news, and 20th Century Fox has announced they will again contribute to that reputation in 2017.

The studio will be returning to SDCC with a 1-hour panel in Hall H on Thursday, July 20. The panel will start at 11:30 am, and will likely feature announcements and (hopefully) footage for their upcoming projects, including Deadpool 2, The Gifted, X-Men: Dark Phoenix, and New Mutants (via Heroic Hollywood).

20th Century Fox took a sabbatical from last year's San Diego Comic-Con thanks to their appearance in 2015. During that panel the studio showed exclusive trailers for Deadpool and X-Men: Apocalypse, which both leaked right after the panel ended. Fox wasn't too thrilled about that of course, so they decided not to show anything in 2016.\

Fans are excited to see Deadpool return to the screen, as well as big screen debuts for fan favorites Cable and Domino, and this would be the place to get a first glimpse at them. Hopefully, they'll show some new footage again this year, but that remains to be seen.

Deadpool 2 currently has a 4.09 out of 5 on ComicBook.com's anticipation rankings.

Based upon Marvel Comics' most unconventional anti-hero, Deadpool tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

Deadpool 2 is directed by David Leitch and written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Deadpool stars Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool/Wade Wilson), Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), T.J. Miller (Weasel), Zazie Beetz (Domino), Josh Brolin (Cable/Nathan Summers), Karan Soni (Dopinder), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead), Leslie Uggams (Blind AL), Julian Dennison, and Stefan Kapičić (Colossus).

Deadpool's Holiday Blu-ray package is now available and retails for $25.99. Logan is also on Blu-ray and DVD, while Gambit still has a release date of December 31 of 2017, though that is likely going to change. New Mutants has been announced for April 3, 2018, while Deadpool 2 will follow on June 1, 2018. X-Men: Dark Phoenix will hit theaters on November 2, 2018.
