Agents of SHIELD Showrunner Teases Graviton's Return

As the Life Model Decoy storyline comes to a head, capping off the middle "pod" of storylines of the fourth season of Agents of SHIELD, executive producer and showrunner Jed Whedon revealed some interesting details regarding the direction of the final block of episodes.

Marvel has since confirmed that tonight's "Self Control" episode will indeed end the L.M.D. pod of storylines, but don't expect a neat-and-tidy resolution to the conflict.

In fact, Whedon teased that a lot of loose ends might come back in a big way for this final arc during an IGN set visit.

Remember the discovery of Graivitonium and the subsequent disappearance of Dr. Franklin Hall in the first season?

"We would not be doing our jobs as well as we could if we left that unanswered," Whedon said.

In the comics, Dr. Hall became a supervillain named Graviton and fought against the Avengers on many different occasions.

Cast members made other teases, like Phil Coulson actor Clark Gregg hinting that HYDRA might return in a big way.

Daisy Johnson actor Chloe Bennet has said several times that the last chunk of episodes are her favorite on the entire series and would reward longtime fans.

Whedon's comments seem to echo those sentiments.

"We move so fast and we move past stuff, but when you get that thing that you care about called back to, there's a reward there that you deserve. For us, it's fun to play in that world," Whedon said. "These were conversations that we were obsessed with and that we bent our minds into pretzels over two years ago."

"Self Control" was written and directed by Jed Whedon, airing tonight. Agents of SHIELD will then be off the air until April 4th.

SHIELD IS OVERRUN BY LMDs; THERE IS NO ONE TO TRUST - Suspicion turns to paranoia when the team doesn't know who can be trusted as more LMDs infiltrate SHIELD.

The regular cast features Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson, Ming-Na Wen as Agent Melinda May, Chloe Bennet as Daisy Johnson, Iain De Caestecker as Agent Leo Fitz, Elizabeth Henstridge as Agent Jemma Simmons, Henry Simmons as Agent Alphonso "Mack" MacKenzie, and John Hannah as Holden Radcliffe.

The guest cast includes Natalia Cordova-Buckley as Elena "Yo-Yo" Rodriguez, Jason O'Mara as Director Jeffrey Mace, Mallory Jansen as Aida 2.0, Briana Venskus as Agent Piper, Maximilian Osinki as Agent Davis, Zach McGowan as The Superior, Ricardo Walker as Agent Prince, and Cantrell Harris as Agent Fisher.
