If you've ever wanted an encyclopedia of Uncanny X-Men that doesn't require much actual reading, Unnecessarily X-Essive is just for you.

What is Unnecessarily X-Essive? For X-Fans, it's a delightful dip into the long-running Uncanny X-Men series with some visual flair. Artist and designer Scott Modrzynski took it upon himself to dive into the book's history and recreate caricatures of every character that appeared in the series.

That isn't any small feat either. In the 545 issues of Uncanny X-Men that ran from 1963 to 2011, there are 2,535 characters. Now fans can find each one at allxmen.com.

The line-up features all sorts of characters, including a few you might have forgotten about. Sure there are multiple versions of the X-Men, including the original five and their various redesigns. It also features the next run of X-Men, with Wolverine, Colossus, Storm, and Thunderbird in tow.

Some of the most entertaining designs are the story-specific ones, like the X-Sentinel versions of the X-Men, including X-Sentinel Iceman, Havok, and Polaris. There's also the delightful Shi'ar storyline designs, with Lilandra, Emperor D'Ken, Raza Longknife, Hepzibah, and Gladiator making appearances.

You might be surprised at how many Avengers show up over the years, with Captain America, The Wasp, Thor, Giant Man, and Iron Man all making appearances, but these pale in comparison to some of the X-Men redesigns and story points. Highlights include Pirate Kitty, Pirate Colossus, Princess Jean, and Windrider from Uncanny X-Men #153, or the barbarian designs of Scarlet Witch, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Storm, and Rogue from Uncanny X-Men #190.

Other standouts include Commander Cameron Hodge (Uncanny X-Men #272), Deathbird (Uncanny X-Men #274), Dr. Stephen Lang (strapped to a cot no less from Uncanny X-Men #291), Magneto in his Xavier-like chair (Uncanny X-Men #315), Feral Wolverine (Uncanny X-Men #332), and Spat & Grovel from Uncanny X-Men #347.

Even Chris Claremont and Dave Cockrum make an appearance (courtesy of Uncanny X-Men #105.)
