New Photos From the 'Avengers 4' Set
Take a look at the new Avengers 4 photos below, and then we'll talk about what this new look for Hawkeye means:
Of particular interest is the tattoo on Renner's left arm. The biggest part of the ink is the obvious symbol of some kind of death icon or reaper. There's also a serpent curled around the forearm, with some kind of green object or totem that's hard to make out.
However, the biggest clue may be hidden within the reaper symbol itself: it looks like on the lower right side of the reaper skull's mouth, there's an image in the that almost looks like the profile of a woman with dark hair. That image would fuel rumors of a tragic turn coming to Hawkeye's life...
The Ronin
Last month, MCU Exchange dropped a major rumor that Hawkeye will suffer a terrible tragedy in Avengers: Infinity War, and that trauma will cause him to shed his Hawkeye persona, and pick up the Ronin persona he adopted in the comic books, after coming back from the dead.
The tragedy that will befall Hawkeye was never explained, but many fans agreed that the most likely scenario was that Hawkeye's family would be caught in the crossfire of the battle between the heroes of Earth and Thanos, who will be backed by his deadly lieutenants, The Black Order.
As Ronin, Hawkeye is more like a ninja Samurai, proficient with a variety of both close and long-range weapons. The name would be fitting, as well, since Clint Barton is currently a man on the run in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, after the events of Captain America: Civil War.
All in all, this is one of those elements of Marvel Comics that fans have always wanted ot see in the MCU, and is probably one of the more logical changes to the Avengers lineup you could make. Behind-the-scenes, having a stunt performer in a Ronin costume would take a lot of the physical demand off of Renner's shoulders.
We'll see what unfolds when Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on May 4, 2018; and then again when Avengers 4 hits theaters on May 3, 2019.
