Avengers: Age of Ultron Trailer: Where is Hydra?

With the impact of Hydra being felt strongly through Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., it seemed as though the evil super-spy agency was poised to be the big bad for Marvel's next handful of movies.

Well...maybe not.

There was nary a Hydra agent to be seen in the latest trailer for Avengers: Age of Ultron, at least as far as we can tell, in spite of the fact that it's generally assumed that the organization, which had a major role to play in both previous Captain America movies, will do so again in Captain America: Civil War.

Here's what's even weirder, though: as the film gets closer and closer and we see more and more from the "twins," we can't help but realize that the last time we saw them, they were in Hydra's clutches. So with Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch playing a big role, where the heck are their captors?

It may be safe to assume that the group will largely stick to the background in Avengers 2. After all, not only is Ultron a big enough threat on his own, but without S.H.I.E.L.D., Hydra's ability to blend in and quietly cause problems is diminished significantly. It's likely if they were a major part of the plot, we would have seen more of them in the preview materials. And, of course, we've speculated dozens of times about just how the Avengers would get their hands on the twins and Loki's staff.

Still, they're obviously playing a big role in Marvel's larger picture and we've heard that a major player in Hydra's organizations will die in the first act of Avengers: Age of Ultron. So it's clear that, as quiet as they're being here in these trailers, they aren't entirely absent.

It's just a question of how they'll be handled in-story.
