The Marvel Cinematic Universe is no stranger to the Infinity Gems, but the next Avengers film will bring the artifacts to the forefront. Marvel Studios will debut Avengers: Infinity War next year and follow Thanos as the Mad Titan scours the universe for all the powerful Infinity Gems - but he'll have special plans for one of the weapons.

According to co-director Joe Russo, Avengers: Infinity War will use the Reality Gem in a top secret fashion.

"Each gem has its own special power. We had to put a lot of thought into how we would represent those powers so it was clear to the audience. Not only are you dealing with a lot of characters, you are also dealing with the stones, the gems, and there's a lot of them," Russo told Screen Rant at San Diego Comic Con.

"So for people to keep track of all of it, we had to get really specific. I won't divulge how we use the Reality Stone, but we do use it."

If you are not familiar with the Reality Gem, the artifact was brought into the MCU back in Thor: The Dark World. The stone came in the form of the Aether, a parasitic force which bonded with Jane Foster. The Collector was the last person in possession of the Aether, but Thanos won't let the Elder get in the way of his apocalyptic plans.

Out of the six stones, the Reality Gem is a particularly nasty power to mess with. The gem's wielder can use its power to break any law of logic and reality. When properly mastered, the Reality Gem can resurrect anyone from the dead or even establish an alternate reality which others can be stuffed into.
