Next year's Avengers: Infinity War promises to introduce plenty of new dynamics between the Marvel Cinematic Universe's cast of characters. But, as a recent interview revealed, one cast member almost mistook the other for a fan, during a previous encounter.

Speaking to People Now, Benedict Cumberbatch, who reprises his role as Stephen Strange/Doctor Strange in the upcoming film, revealed that he was approached by the MCU's Spider-Man, Tom Holland, while filming the fourth season of Sherlock.

"I was filming Sherlock on a bridge," Cumberbatch explained. "And I was running and I heard this guy going, 'Benedict, Benedict!' And I thought, 'Oh it's a fan, I'm just going to keep walking back to my start mark.'"

But as it turns out, the 'fan' in question was Holland, who was getting a ride home from the London premiere of Captain America: Civil War.

"And he was like, 'Benedict, it's Tom!'" Cumberbatch revealed. "And I was like, 'Tom?' And it was him, coming home in an Uber from the Civil War premiere."

Despite that awkward encounter, the pair appear to be 'good friends' on and off-screen, with Infinity War co-director Joe Russo hinting that the duo will share a few scenes in the epic film.
