Captain America: Civil War Projected For Up To $230 Million International Opening

Captain America: Civil War is set to premiere in 61 foreign markets this week. Analysts predict the film will bring in $200-230 million in its international box office debut.

Those are the most moderate predictions. Some analysts have it as low as $180 million, while others have it as high as $250 million, which would unseat Furious 7 as the sixth highest international opening of all time.

That puts it well shy of beating Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice's $256.2 million, the largest superhero movie opening of all time, but there is some chance that positive reviews could lead to a larger than expected audience turnout.

Marvel's Captain America: Civil War finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps—one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark's surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.
