Captain Britain Is Marvel's Most Popular U.S.Avenger

When Marvel Entertainment confirmed they were kicking off the U.S.Avengers comic book series with a slew of special variant covers, readers weren't surprised. With that kind of name, U.S.Avengers was begging to have the 50 states drawn up, and Marvel wasn't one to disappoint. Not long ago, the company unveiled its special variant covers for the series along with a few extras - but fans definitely weren't expecting the issues to fall in line like they have.

Somehow, Captain Britain has become the most popular U.S.Avenger of them all.

In a tweet, Marvel Entertainment announced the 10 highest-selling variants of U.S.Avengers #1. The most recent results show that the United Kingdom is the hands-down winner as Captain Britain leads the charge. Canada comes in second with Deadpool gracing its cover, and Puerto Rico is in fourth with White Tiger.

The U.S. is being represented by two states when it comes to the top five variants. Texas and California are holding onto their spots. As for the rest of the country, the states are lagging behind. New York, Michigan, Florida, Maryland, and Ohio round out the 10 tops spots, but none of them come even close to beating out the United Kingdom.

Oh, what would the founding fathers say?

Of course, there is still time left for the results to shift. U.S.Avengers won't go on sale until January 4, so fans better put in their pre-orders if they want to keep Captain Britain from conquering the race. When the series premieres next year, the 50 state variants plus a few extras will finally hit shelves thanks to artist Rod Reis.

"We did extensive research through Marvel's history to be able to align a particular Avenger with each individual State," says Tom Brevoort, SVP/Executive Editor. "Beginning with places of birth, and expanding outward to key stories featuring the character in that particular location, we were able to hone in on a specific and unique Avengers character with a connection to each of the fifty States—and more!"

"Marvel's U.S.AVENGERS State Variants are a chance for our fans and retailers to show their home town patriotism paired with some of the biggest Avengers from the Marvel Universe," SVP Sales & Marketing for Marvel, David Gabriel, says. "We knew that a series with the name U.S.AVENGERS would evoke a sense of honor with all of our fans and we really wanted to go that extra step and offer a variant campaign that would allow our readers to show their hometown pride across this great nation."

Al Ewing will write the series while Paco Medina provides art. When U.S.Avengers was announced, Ewing said their assembled team members were chosen carefully. The creator also said he hopes to explore themes of patriotism in U.S.Avengers but understands that the team's line-up is going to cause lots of internal friction.
