Here's Why Ryan Reynolds Won't Be Doing Stunts On Deadpool 2

Fans are eagerly anticipating Deadpool 2, the follow up to the wildly-popular 20th Century Fox film. But according to its star, Ryan Reynolds, he won't be lending his talents to the film's stunts - for a good reason.

While speaking to Empire Magazine, Reynolds revealed that he has been scaling back from doing his own stunts, instead relying on a crew of stuntmen, following a severe injury on the set of 2013's Safe House.

"I've had some bad injuries doing stunts." Reynolds explained. "I broke a couple of vertebrae in my neck. It was a bad situation. I remember the doctor sitting in the office - it was about the seventh time I had been there that year - and he writes on a prescription pad, rips off the note and it reads 'Stuntman'. Point taken. So now I use four different guys that come with me."

Considering the masked nature of the Marvel hero he portrays, it certainly isn't an issue that Reynolds isn't able to do his own stunts on Deadpool 2. Still, it provides an interesting context for some of Deadpool's elaborate action sequences, and will probably do the same when the sequel rolls around.

Based upon Marvel Comics' most unconventional anti-hero, Deadpool tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

Deadpool 2 is directed by David Leitch and written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Deadpool stars Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool/Wade Wilson), Morena Baccarin (Vanessa), T.J. Miller (Weasel), Zazie Beetz (Domino), Josh Brolin (Cable/Nathan Summers), Karan Soni (Dopinder), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead), Leslie Uggams (Blind AL), Julian Dennison, and Stefan Kapičić (Colossus).

Deadpool's Holiday Blu-ray package is now available and retails for $25.99. Logan is also on Blu-ray and DVD, while Gambit still has a release date of December 31 of 2017, though that is likely going to change. New Mutants has been announced for April 3, 2018, while Deadpool 2 will follow on June 1, 2018. X-Men: Dark Phoenix will hit theaters on November 2, 2018.
