Deadpool 2 Screenwriter Teases Obscure New Characters

When making Deadpool, director Tim Miller chose Negasonic Teenage Warhead (played by newcomer Brianna Hildebrand) to be Colossus' X-Men trainee because he fell in love with her name. However, to make her work in film, he stripped away her telepathic and precognitive powers and added the ability to detonate atomic bursts from her body. Despite being one of the more obscure mutant in the Marvel universe, the snarky and silently-surly teen became a fan-favorite, delivering some memorable and hilarious quips.

While promoting his new film Life, screenwriter Rhett Reese was asked if the Deadpool 2 will introduce more obscure mutants.

"Yeah, Cable and Domino grabbed the headlines on Deadpool," Reese told LRM. "But there are definitely some more obscure characters that people know or that real diehards know that will be in there just by virtue of we need a new villain, and we need some new good guys to [complement Deadpool], but it is growing. Of course, it will be all about the lunacy that is Deadpool himself."

So, who might we see? When our own Marvel expert Jamie Lovett wrote "Five Other Obscure Mutants Who Should Be In Deadpool," he included ForgetMeNot, Molly Hayes, Squirrel Girl, Boom Boom, and Beak. However, considering that Cable and Domino will appear in the sequel, you have to figure that Shatterstar, Grizzly, G.W. Bridge, Hammer, Maverick, Outlaw, and Garrison Kaine could be in the mix as well.

Deadpool (2016) - Hold onto your chimichangas, folks. From the studio that brought you all 3 Taken films comes DEADPOOL, the block-busting, fourth-wall-breaking masterpiece about Marvel Comics' sexiest anti-hero: me! Go deep inside (I love that) my origin story...typical stuff...rogue experiment, accelerated healing powers, horrible disfigurement, red spandex, imminent revenge. Directed by overpaid tool Tim Miller, and starring God's perfect idiot Ryan Reynolds, Ed Skrein, Morena Baccarin, T. J. Miller and Gina Carano, DEADPOOL is a giddy slice of awesomeness packed with more twists than my enemies' intestines and more action than prom night. Amazeballs!

The Deadpool sequel, which is being directed by David Leitch (John Wick, Atomic Blonde) and written by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, is currently in pre-production and is expected to begin filming this spring. The film will introduce Deadpool's time-traveling mutant partner, Cable, as well as X-Force member Domino, who is being portrayed by Atlanta actress Zazie Beetz. Supporting characters from the original film — such as Colossus (voiced by Stefan Kapicic), Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand) and taxi driver Dopinder (Karan Soni) — are also expected to return.

Deadpool 2 will arrive in theater in 2018.
