Deadpool Tops List Of Most Torrented Films Of 2016

It's the time of the year when fans take time to look back at highlights from 2016, and there are plenty of special awards to give out. One film has found itself on a slew of coveted critics list this year thanks to its refreshing (and raunchy) humor, but Deadpool has also landed on one list it likely wanted to avoid. According to TorrentFreak, the NSFW superhero flick is by far the most torrented movie of the year.

The site is reporting that Deadpool got a strong torrenting start in 2016 when illicit sharers began pirating the film in February. Today, there are still thousands of active netizens trying to share Deadpool online and somehow evading overseers who would love to stop them.

Deadpool is not the only comic book adaptation to make the list. DC Film's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice ranked second while Captain America: Civil War came in third. The Top 10 list also includes titles like X-Men: Apocalypse and Suicide Squad.

Looking at the list, it is impossible to ignore that all the films were essential box-office hits save for one or two. Captain America: Civil War was one of the highest-grossing movies of 2016, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens absolutely dominated the box-office when it debuted last December.

However, not all of the film's in the Top 10 list were blockbusters. Independence Day: Resurgence was touted as a groundbreaking sci-fi thriller, but the movie failed to impress audiences at the theater. The same goes for The Revenant as the award-winning drama did well with bodies like the Oscars but failed to grab the attention of casual moviegoers.

Surprisingly, a few major films of 2016 failed to make the Top 10 torrenting list. Zootopia, The Jungle Book, The Secret Life of Pets, and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them were nowhere to be seen on the list; However, that might just be a good thing for those films.

Deadpool's Holiday Blu-ray package is now available and retails for $25.99. Deadpool 2 is expected to begin filming next year and is due out January 12, 2018.
