Doctor Strange Breaks Into Top 100 Grossing Movies Of All-Time

It looks like Doctor Strange continues to mystify fans with its exciting visuals and all-star origin story. The blockbuster debuted earlier this year, and it has showed little signs of slowing down. Marvel's Doctor Strange left both audiences and critics spellbound, and now it has reached an impressive box-office milestone. The feature has just broke into the Top 100 grossing movies of all-time.

According to Box Office Mojo, Doctor Strange is now setting pretty at the 99th spot on the Top 100 list. To date, the movie has earned nearly $657 million with $229.2 of that coming from the domestic box-office alone. Doctor Strange now sits above Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl as the swashbuckling blockbuster only earned $654 million back in 2003.

Of course, Doctor Strange is still a long way away from competing with the Top 10 highest-grossing movies at the overall worldwide office. Avatar continues to reign supreme with its $2.79 billion threshold while Titan sits at second place. In third, Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens sits pretty with $2.07 billion before Marvel's The Avengers takes the fifth spot with $1.52 billion.

Clearly, the folks at Marvel Studios are excited to add yet another one of their films to the coveted box-office ranking. Earlier today, director Scott Derrickson tweeted about the milestone to share the news with fans.

From Marvel comes DOCTOR STRANGE, the story of world-famous neurosurgeon Dr. Stephen Strange whose life changes forever after a horrific car accident robs him of the use of his hands. When traditional medicine fails him, he is forced to look for healing, and hope, in an unlikely place – a mysterious enclave known as Kamar-Taj. He quickly learns that this is not just a center for healing but also the front line of a battle against unseen dark forces bent on destroying our reality. Before long Strange – armed with newly acquired magical powers – is forced to choose whether to return to his life of fortune and status or leave it all behind to defend the world as the most powerful sorcerer in existence. Join Strange on his dangerous, mystifying, and totally mind-bending journey.

The cast features Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock, Star Into Darkness, The Imitation Game), Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave), Rachel McAdams (Sherlock Holmes), Michael Stuhlbarg (A Serious Man), Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale), and Tilda Swinton (The Grand Budapest Hotel).
