Doctor Strange: How Infinity Stones Play Into The Movie

With only a month left until the release of Marvel's Doctor Strange, fans are gearing up for their first look into the Marvel world of magic.

It's no secret that all of the Marvel films, to this point, have been building toward Avengers: Inifinity War, and Doctor Stephen Strange plays a vital role in the battle against Thanos.

Since his role in destroying the Infinity Gauntlet is so important, fans have thought that one of the stones would be featured in his stand-alone film. According to President of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, that may not actually be the case.

During a visit to the Doctor Strange film set, ComicBook.com got to speak to Feige himself. Naturally, a questions about the inclusion of the stones -- and how big of a part they play in the film -- was an immediate probing.

He shot down the notion of the Inifinity Stones' inclusion fairly quickly:

"If you're tracking such things, perhaps but we don't get into it in this movie."

Almost immediately following that response, he was grilled with a more specific question about the Infinity Stones: do they have something to do with the Eye?

Again, Feige shut the door, and gave a pretty thorough explanation for the absence of the stones:

"It's close; you can look at for as long as you want. Again, there's a lot to take in this movie, there's a lot of new concepts, there's a lot of new characters, there's a lot of new mythologies that we didn't want to clutter up by talking about other [mcguffins]."

While the Infinity Stones (or gems, as they're called in the comics) play a big part in Doctor Strange's overall story arc with Marvel, it was important to set up his world on its own.

This film will be vastly different from any of the other Marvel films so far, and the producers didn't want it to be full of clutter. They may have learned this lesson from other recent comic book films, as many have been criticized for doing just that.

Directed by Scott Derrickson (Sinister, Deliver Us From Evil) and starring Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock, Star Trek: Into Darkness), Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years A Slave, The Martian), Rachel McAdams (Mean Girls, Spotlight), Mads Mikkelson (Casino Royale, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), and Tilda Swinton (Snowpiercer, The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe), Doctor Strange will hit US theaters on November 4, 2016.
