Exclusive: X-Men Gold, Venom, And More Marvel Legacy Primers Revealed

09/16/2017 04:09 pm EDT

Marvel Legacy is all about restoring some of the universe's signature characters, and their new primer campaign will try and get all fans up to speed.

Every Marvel Legacy title will include a 3-page primer on that character's history and where they find themselves as their new chapter begins. The primers will be written by Robbie Thompson with art by Mark Bagley, and now ComicBook.com has your first look at primers for Iceman, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, Venom, and X-Men: Gold.

As you can see in the gallery, each primer comes with a custom cover and an ending transition cover into the new Legacy story arc.

So take Iceman for instance. Iceman's primer includes a walk through his X-Men origins, then transitions through his history with a variety of teams. This goes until his All-New X-Men storyline where he meets his past self, who managed to do what he could never do, and that's come out as gay. As you see, it gets a new reader up to speed with the character in a streamlined fashion and lets new fans jump right in understanding the big events that have transpired.

The same goes for Venom, which received its original numbering back with issue #150. Venom's primer features the various hosts of the symbiote over the years, including Peter Parker, Eddie Brock, Mac Gargan, Flash Thompson, Lee, and now Eddie once again.

"When I first approached Robbie and Mark to do these Primer stories, I gave them only one edict: to remind all readers both who these characters are and what they're about in three all new pages," Marvel editor Darren Shan told Newsarama. "What we got back has been some of the most fun art I've ever seen from Mark! And we couldn't be luckier to have someone like Robbie to cherry pick the most classic moments in Marvel history. Then the two of them tie this all up into one perfect package. I think everyone will love these!"

Thompson has enjoyed the process as well, especially working with Mark Bagley. "It's been an absolute blast working on this project -- it gives me a great excuse to re-read so many of my favorite comics!" said Thompson. I've been a fan of Mark's for years, so to get to work with him is a dream come true. Mark takes the scripts and distills them down to their essence, finding brilliant ways to tell these stories with truly iconic images. I can't wait for people to see what he's done with these!"

You can view the exclusive primers in the gallery.
