Finn Jones Promises Fight Scenes in Marvel's The Defenders Will Surpass Marvel's Iron Fist

The Netflix series Marvel's Iron Fist marked the biggest stumbling block in the world of Marvel adaptations, receiving poor reviews for its lack of originality, poor casting, and disappointing fight choreography for a show about a kung fu master. Series star Finn Jones has promised IGN that the choreography in the team-up series Marvel's The Defenders will more than make up for the action in his previous series.

Jones had previously admitted that the production schedule of Marvel's Iron Fist caused him to learn choreography the day of shooting, which he promised wasn't the case this time around. "By the time of Defenders, I had been working on the character and training for about seven months, on and off, so by Defenders, I was a lot more well-trained than at the beginning of Iron Fist because I had been doing it for so long," the actor confessed.

"The good thing about Defenders, because it was an ensemble piece I wasn't needed every single second of the day to shoot, which is often the case when you're leading your own individual show," Jones elaborated. "At the beginning of [Defenders] when we're all separated, there were definitely days in the week where I didn't have to shoot."

Jones continued, "Because of that, I went in and got a chance to rehearse, spend days on choreography before we actually shot. But then as we all came together and our schedules became a lot tighter because of the shooting demands, there were often times, especially towards the end of the show where we were picking up choreography on the day of shooting. That's kind of a regular thing, that's just television scheduling. Unfortunately, it's just something we have to get used to."

The actor seemed quite aware of his previous series' flaws and was optimistic that fans would enjoy what Danny Rand had to offer in the new series.

"I think the choreography is a lot slicker and I think the way it's been shot and edited is definitely a lot more cohesive [in Defenders]," Jones added. "It was a different choreography team and the way it was shot was a little bit different as well, and I think that definitely helped sell the fight scenes a lot better. And on top of that, I was more used to picking up choreography and the fluidity of the movements."

Marvel's The Defenders follows Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Iron Fist (Finn Jones). A quartet of singular heroes with one common goal – to save New York City. This is the story of four solitary figures, burdened with their own personal challenges, who realize they just might be stronger when teamed together.

Marvel's The Defenders premieres on Netflix on Aug. 18, 2017.
